Seven External Factors That Could Influence Business And Marketing Efforts
This paper will follow a young business as it begins the process of establishing itself in the legal world. There are several factors that business must consider before choosing what type of originations the business will become. In the case of this new company they have opted to become an S corporation. An outline of what lead to this decision will be discussed in-depth. In addition the steps that were taken to complete this task. Business Scenario As the reality of the business begins, it becomes very clear that we must start making the necessary steps to legalize the organization. The first step is to registering the business name. After registering Gentle Clean, we must make a decision on whether to become a corporation or a partnership. The first thing that must be considered is making sure that the business is its own entity. Itââ¬â¢s very important that the business and its affairs do not affect our personal lives. As well as anything personal rolling over to the business. A LLC is seen as its own legal entity and is treated as completely separate and distinct from its members. An LLC can be sued, can sue, can enter into contracts, and be found liable both civilly and criminally all on its own, separate from the members of the LLC. In addition a LLC can be member- or manager-managed, which determines who has authority to bind the LLC in contracts. A LCC can be taxed as a partnership, resulting in the income being taxed to the partnersââ¬â¢ own tax returns, or corporation, meaning it would be taxed as its own entity. C corporation and S corporation have limited liability protection for the owners, and each is seen as a separate legal entity from the owners. The main difference between the two is taxation. The C corporation files its own tax return, and while the S corporation must file corporate tax returns, it does not pay taxes at the corporate level. Rather, the profits of the corporation are passed through to the individual to the shareholders on t heir own individual tax returns. Reviewing the two options one point must be seriously reviewed. The matter of taxation is of serious importance, and which way we proceed. Both an LLC and S corp and C corp are their own entities. Yet very different in other aspects. We must decide whether to pay taxes at a cooperate level, or have the profits of the corporation are passed through to the individual to the shareholders on their own individual tax returns. Federal taxable income is between 15% and 35%, state and local taxes vary on income. Shareholders of most corporations are not taxed directly on corporate income, but must pay tax on dividends paid by the corporation. However, shareholders of S Corporations and mutual funds are taxed currently on corporate income, and do not pay tax on dividends.Since it will be several months if not years that the company will make a real profit. It would be in the best interest of the company to file as an S corp. Thus allowing the company to be its own entity as well as establishing the company and protecting the interest of our product. With that being said we must meet with a corporate attorney and file all necessary documents and begin the process of becoming an S corporation. Gentle Clean is now on its way to becoming a competitor in the world of Green cleaning supplies.

There Are No Children Here Essays - There Are No Children Here, Gang
There Are No Children Here Essays - There Are No Children Here, Gang There Are No Children Here The West side of Chicago, Harlem, Watts, and almost any major city in the U.S., What do all of these areas have in common? These areas, along with many others have become mine fields for the explosive issues of race, values, and community responsibility, led by the plight of the urban underclass. Issues such as violent crime, social separation, welfare dependence, drug wars, and unemployment all play a major role in the plight of American inner-city life. Alex Kotlowitz's book; THERE ARE NO CHILDREN HERE, confronts America's devastated urban life; a most painful issue in America. Kotlowitz traces the lives of two black boys; 10-year-old Lafayette, and 7 year old Pharaoh, as they struggle to beat the odds growing up in one of Chicago's worst housing projects. Their family includes a welfare dependent mother, an alcoholic-drug using father, an older sister, an older brother, and younger triplets. Kotlowitz describes the horrors of an ill-maintained housing project completely taken over by gangs, where murders and shootings are an everyday thing. He succeeds at putting a face on the people trapped inside the housing projects with virtually no hope of escape. One can truly feel a sense of great loss for the family, and a great deal of hope for the two young boys. You can truly feel yourself hoping that things will work out for them, and you can really feel like you know these young men on a personal basis. All through their lives Pharaoh and Lafayette are surrounded by violence and poverty. Their neighborhood had no banks, no public libraries no movie theatres, no skating rinks or bowling allies. Drug abuse was so rampant that the drug lords literally kept shop in an abandoned building in the projects, and shooting was everywhere. Also, there were no drug rehabilitation programs or centers to help combat the problem. Police feared going into the ghetto out of a fear for their own safety. The book follows Pharaoh and Lafayette over a two year period in which they struggle with school, attempt to resist the lure of gangs, mourn the death of close friends, and still find the courage to search for a quiet inner peace, that most people take for granted. Kotlowitz portrays what life is like at the bottom, and the little hope there is for the poor which makes it virtually impossible for the young lives in the ghetto to grow up. Also at the same time Kotlowitz wants the reader to know that not all hope is lost, but something must be done before hope is truly lost. The mother was portrayed as a woman who lacked self-esteem, and was not prepared to enter the job market. She had no skills, and was completely dependant on welfare. She also liked to gamble, and sometimes actually won. The biggest and most pervasive problem of the young children's lives was the dominance of the gangs at Henry Horner Homes. The gangs were dedicated to violence, and children were compelled to join for their own safety. The gangs in the Homes were of a retreatist sort, in that they focused mainly on drugs, and their gang related activities, and would use whatever force necessary to keep their activities afloat. Drugs were a part of the boys every day life, and brutal drugs wars surrounded their apartment. With the gangs so close to home, the children had a constant fear of death. The violence never let up. The children lost many friends to either drugs or the gangs. When they lost a friend, they felt sorrow for a while, but reality would set in, and they knew that it w as an every day part of their life. It was these feelings that made the Rivers children hesitant to get close to anyone. If they did not get close, they would not feel the loss as much. It made them feel that there was no way out, and death was their unyielding fate. Their feelings of loss also caused them to have a tremendous distrust in the police. In a way they looked to the police for guidance, but at the same time did not trust them. Residents of the homes

NASA Not Ready for Safe Manned Mars Mission
NASA Not Ready for Safe Manned Mars Mission NASA lacks the ââ¬Å"right stuffâ⬠to deal with the dangers involved in sending humans to Mars and bringing them back ââ¬â alive according to the space agencyââ¬â¢s own Office of Inspector General (IG). In his 48-page report, NASA inspector general Paul K. Martin stated that NASA ââ¬Å"faces significant challengesâ⬠in protecting Mars mission crews, and that it is being too ââ¬Å"optimisticâ⬠in projecting its timetable for responding to the risks. As a result, Mars-bound humans ââ¬Å"may have to accept a higher level of risk than those who fly International Space Station missions.â⬠Now planned for the 2030s, NASAââ¬â¢s first human mission to Mars will be fraught with new dangers such as deep space radiation, increased cancer risk, impaired vision, negative effects of extended space travel on human behavior and performance. Reality check: By the 2030s, there will still be no warp drives, transporters, replicators or other ââ¬Å"Star Trekâ⬠wonders to help our Mars-bound astronauts get there faster and stay alive longer. In fact, as IG Martin notes, they might even run out of food. Running out of Food? Yes, even basic nutrition could become a big problem, according to the report, because: A mission to Mars and back will take at least 3 years, but the current maximum shelf life for NASAââ¬â¢s prepackaged foods is only 1.5 years. The vehicle carrying astronauts to Mars and back will probably be far smaller than the International Space Station, providing significantly less room for food storage.Periodic resupply missions carrying more food, like those currently serving the Space Station, will not be possible. Finally, NASA scientists do not know how deep space radiation will affect the quality, shelf life and nutritional value of food. While NASA is investigating resupply alternatives, including actually growing food in the Mars spacecraft, the IG stated, ââ¬Å"Despite 35 years of experience with space flight and research in this area, NASA food scientists continue to face challenges from crew member weight loss, dehydration, and reduced appetite that can result in nutrient deficiencies both during and post mission.â⬠Dangers and Costs of Dealing with Them Not Known While NASA has developed ways to deal with most of the risks of travel in low Earth orbit, many of the added risks associated with long duration space travel ââ¬â like trips to Mars and back are not yet fully understood. In addition, taxpayers, IG Martin also found that NASA cannot accurately project the true costs of creating ways to deal with the Mars mission risks. In fact, the ability of NASA to pay for a manned Mars mission, safe or not, is questionable given its shrinking share of the annual federal budget, which Congress has shown no signs of enlarging any time soon. ââ¬Å"NASA has taken positive steps to address the human health and performance risks inherent in space travel,â⬠Martin wrote, adding, ââ¬Å"Long duration missions will likely expose crews to health and human performance risks for which NASA has limited effective countermeasures. â⬠¦ Accordingly, the astronauts chosen to make at least the initial forays into deep space may have to accept a higher level of risk than those who fly International Space Station missions.â⬠A ââ¬ËCulture of Silosââ¬â¢ Dragging NASA Down In his report, IG Martin contends that NASAââ¬â¢s scientists and engineers are held back by their tendency to work in what he called a ââ¬Å"culture of silos,â⬠in which technical teams work and collaborate only with specialists within their own areas of expertise. In other words, not enough research data is being shared. ââ¬Å"We found multiple examples of work taking place on health and human performance risks that suffered from such communication silos,â⬠Martin wrote. According to the report, NASAââ¬â¢s has so far failed to give its astronaut life safety community a designated representative to work with the engineering, safety, and mission planning communities to ensure that issues of astronaut health and physical performance are fully and properly considered. IG Found Some Progress, Butâ⬠¦ IG Martin did find that NASA had been taking some steps to lessen the risks of the Mars mission including a new Mars rover, set for launch in 2020, that will be able to extract and collect oxygen from thin Martian atmosphere and ways to grow food in the almost sterile Martian soil. However, Martin concluded that NASA must speed up its work on astronaut safety in order to meet its established manned Mars mission goals and timetables.

Where Are You Going Where Have You Been Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1000 words
Where Are You Going Where Have You Been - Essay Example She is the complete opposite of Connieââ¬â¢s, which is the prime reason why Connieââ¬â¢s mother nags her and expects her to emulate her sister more. Their mother is a typical maternal figure and is the source of Connieââ¬â¢s distress, who sometimes wished for her mother to die. Whereas, her father was a busy man, who always worked and hardly had time to talk to anyone in the family. 2. How does Connie view her mother, and vice versa?à Connie views her mother as the primary source distress and frustration in her life as her mother always expects her to be more like her sister. They bicker almost all the time and in the story it is often hinted that her mother envies Connieââ¬â¢s youth and beauty both things that Connieââ¬â¢s mother has lost but Connie admires them in the mirror all the time. There is a lot of friction between the two characters and at one point Connie even wishes for her to die. 3. Why is the father's role so minimal in the story? How is this signifi cant?à The story depicts a typical American family, with a mother, father and two children. The father is shown to be the provider and he takes care of all the demands and needs of the family. His role is largely minimal in the story because the author wants to point out the general role of a father in a domestic household, where the man works and the mother manages the household and is responsible for rearing the children. 4. What are the "two sides" of Connie's life? Why is she split this way?à The two sides of Connieââ¬â¢s life represent ââ¬Ëfantasyââ¬â¢ and ââ¬Ërealityââ¬â¢. The schism between these two facets of Connieââ¬â¢s life is understandable, as reality depicts what Connie really is and her fantasy include what she wants to be. In reality, Connie is juts a 15 year old and though she is beautiful, she still has a very childlike view of the world and boys in general. She just pretends to act like an adult but when the time came to stand up to Arnold Friend she yelled for her mother, which showed her juvenile insecurity in her nature. The split in the two sides to her life came with the notion that Connie can never fir in to what she imagined herself to be. 5. How does Connie feel about boys? Sex? Is she a typical teen in her fantasies?à Connie for all her immaturity is aware of the beauty that she endowed with. She acts as an adult to convey a powerful sexual image but lacks the power to consistently carry that image due to her juvenility. Her sexual fantasies are largely based on the pop-culture of the society and wishes for a fairy-tale like sexual experience but when she goes with a boy for the first time in an alley, she realizes that life a has lot more to it than just fairytales. However, her immature fantasies are understandable because she is just a 15 year old girl and is just acting her age; hence, Connie is depicted as an archetypal starry-eyed teenager in the story. 6. What is the significance of Arnold's masquer ade? (Car, clothes, boots, glasses...). Why can't Connie see through it at first? At what point does she begin to see through the mask?à There is a story motif attached to Arnoldââ¬â¢s character in the story with his Gold convertible, expensive clothes and shades. He represents ââ¬Ëdesireââ¬â¢ for every teenager, because young people at some point or another all dream about more money and power. He even exudes certain amount sexuality that draws Connie towards him; which signifies the materialistic approach that every teenage girl or boy has at this age. However, she soon realizes that when he starts to threaten that he would harm her family that is when she realizes the scary face behind the

New orleans after hurricane Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 250 words
New orleans after hurricane - Essay Example Many people in New Orleans experience post traumatic stress and need a lot of support and counseling to deal with this issue according to Rhoads, Pearman, and Rick (Nd). Nutrition and metabolism focus on food and fluid consumption patterns in relation to the metabolic needs according to Daniels and Daniels (2004). This involves evaluation of local nutrient supplies and their adequacy. In New Orleans, new restaurants have been established as well as new and improved types of foods such as praline, red beans and rice. The Foods Policy Advisory Committee has been established by the City Council of New Orleans to study access to health food access and reduce disparities experienced in accessing healthy food. Other issues such as problems related to tissue integrity, gastrointestinal system, fluid balance and host defense are also identified through this pattern. Elimination is a pattern where data collection focuses on patterns of excretion (Sonoma, nd). In New Orleans excretory problems including diarrhea and constipation were experienced due to disparities in food access after the hurricanes. Data collection is done annually by researchers in the health sector to establish changes in food consumption in New Orleans.
Organizational Philosophies and Technology Paper Essay - 2
Organizational Philosophies and Technology Paper - Essay Example 1). A company's approach to the use of technology to help set and manage ethical standards and guidelines can have a tremendous influence on the type of work environment or culture a company promotes. The extent to which there is an overall laid back attitude toward ethics, or a serious one, or the extent to which employees feel trusted and comfortable in their work environment, all has a lot to do with a company's decisions about how it chooses to deploy technology to establish and maintain ethical behavior. Businesses must tread carefully when making these decisions, for they risk unintended repercussions that might result from an overly zealous attempt to manage employees' ethical behavior, such as low morale and job satisfaction that lead to reduced productivity and costly turnover. In addition to managing ethical guidelines, companies today are increasingly turning toward technology in order to perform human resources functions. Many of the administrative aspects of human resources have become automated and transformed into self service functionality by technology. These include management of such routine HR activities as benefits and leave management. This too can have an impact on company culture by forging an atmosphere of high efficiency and cutting edge capabilities, or else can lead employees to feel isolated without personal HR service. Ultimately, whether a company chooses to deploy technology as a means of monitoring employee activities and behavior, or to facilitate their execution of routine functions, the potential repercussions must be weighed against to anticipated benefits of such technology. Unfortunately, the former are often not as easy to predict as the latter. Setting Ethical Standards via Technology "The need to address ethics in companies that deal with information technology has increased over the past several years as more and more transactions are handled using information systems" (Stanwick & Stanwick, 2001, para. 2). Technology has raised employee ethical concerns in the areas of property rights and obligations, policies pertaining to company proprietary as well as customer information, and employee privacy and monitoring (para. 5 - 9). Companies today are leveraging technology more than ever before to communicate expectations for performance and behavior to employees. Most companies have intranets containing a wealth of information regarding policies and procedures to which employees can refer when they have questions. For example, workers can often retrieve employee handbooks, review HR procedures and processes, view and make changes to tax information, benefits elections, and so forth. Online learning has become another key venue for communicating with employees about appropriate behavioral and performance expectations. In the wake of the corporate accounting scandals of a few years ago, many companies have required employees to take e-learning classes on how to ensure legal compliance with Sarbanes-Oxley. These types of courses often provide guidance on what to do when presented with various types of ethically challenging scenarios, and give the company an opportunity to clearly communicate ethical standards and guidelines to every employee. Technology has also given companies the ability to track
